Dr. Missi Stec brings nearly 20 years of experience
as a faculty member in diverse academic roles. Her work seamlessly integrates
her passion for technology with a commitment to enhancing the student
experience in nursing education.
A recognized leader in her field, Dr. Stec has earned several prestigious fellowships: a 2015 Fellow of the American
College of Nurse Midwives, a 2017 Fellow of the American Academy of
Nursing, and a 2022 Academy of Nursing Education Fellow, in
recognition of her groundbreaking work in technology integration in nursing
education.
Internationally renowned for her innovative pedagogical
strategies in online learning, Dr. Stec’s research focuses on the use of
technology to enhance teaching and learning. Her mixed-methods research
project, Exploring Adaptation to a Curriculum Delivered via iPad, was grant funded and has resulted in multiple published studies on integrating
technology into nursing curricula. Her recent research examines faculty
confidence in using structured development programs to integrate technology
effectively into teaching and learning environments.
As a 2015 Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE), Dr. Stec has
worked collaboratively to create a variety of resources that support meaningful
technology integration across disciplines.
Dr. Stec holds a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University, and both a Master of Science and Doctor of Nursing Practice from Vanderbilt University. She is also the author of Midwife Notes and the host of the “EngagED Midwife Podcast.” In addition to her academic work, she practices as an attending nurse-midwife in Nashville, TN.
